Long ago, when the peramids were still young, ancient kings played a game of great and terrible power. But these "shadow games" erupted into a war that threaten to destroy the entire world untill a brave and powerful pharoah locked the magic away. Imprising it in seven millenium items: the millenium rod, millenium ring, millenium eye, millenium key, millenium scale, millenium necklace, and the millenium puzzle. Now, five thousand years later, a boy named Yugi unlocks the secret of the millenium puzzle. He is infused with magical energies, for destiny has chosen him to protect the world from the return of the shadow games just as the brave pharoah did, five thousand years ago.

Yugi Moto is a teenage boy in his freshmen years at Domino High School. If there was anyone on earth born to be the master of games, Yugi is that person. One day, his grandpa, who owns a game shop, gave him an ancient puzzle and dared him to solve it. It's said that whoever solves the puzzle is granted with dark mysterious powers. Yugi eventually solves the puzzle and becomes Yami Yugi, Yugi's more powerful alter ego.
